The Senior Plant Manager will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the manufacturing plant. In this role the position holder will utilize his/her experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, which affect short and long-term business goals. It’s his/her responsibility to oversee efficiency and production, the employees, and to ensure the plant consistently runs efficiently, quickly, safely, and smoothly.

Additionally, the position is responsible for the development of policies and procedures designed to increase productivity, assure quality, and mitigate production problems. To this end, the Senior Plant Manager will improve throughput and other in-house processes with the objective of reducing overall costs and enhancing customer satisfaction. The job holder will provide direction to subordinate managers, offering professional expertise and monitoring performance to ensure that departmental and individual objectives are achieved within scheduled timelines and budgets.

Duties and responsibilities

  • 1. Drive all production activities to achieve business set goals and targets:
  • - Responsible for medical production and other functional units, such as industrial engineering, maintenance, production planning, quality control and quality assurance, - for a total of approx. 1000 employees.
  • - Lead the effort to develop and implement plans to meet requirements for product quality, cost and delivery.
  • - Responsible for leading daily manufacturing operations. Ensure optimal operation, which is characterized by a large variety of production processes (manual assembly to fully automatic production) to deliver on-time order processing at the highest quality level.
  • - Ensure all manufacturing functions are staffed and well trained to perform their duties effectively. Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing all manufacturing functions/ at the plant.
  • - Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards. Comply with all industry requirements and internal regulations.
  • - Responsible for managing the manufacturing plant within operating budget and assigned performance indicators. Administer all financial functions of facility and prepare all required budgets and forecast same as per required budget. Provide support to all facility activities and prepare profit plans for plant. Ensure compliance to all budgets and manage communication for all management and supervise performance for same.
  • - Where required, monitor third party business and suppliers to ensure that they are efficiently and effectively providing the needed services and supplies while staying within budgetary limit.
  • 2. Promote and develop continuous improvement and efficiency:
  • - Promote a favorable working environment for all employees to achieve excellence in productivity, customer satisfaction, quality, and EHS.
  • - Drive initiatives to maximize employee contribution and drive improvements in product quality and effectiveness.
  • - Planning, design, structuring and optimization of work processes and systems in regards to lean management. Idea creator and innovator in all production-related issues. Continuously develop Vietnamese production facilities, e.g. through close exchange with other medical production sites of the group globally. Actively seek opportunities to expand production facilities in Vietnam by negotiating and positively influencing related stakeholders.
  • - Review financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement..
  • - Analyze all customer metrics and recommend improvement. Collect and analyze new data to determine where waste could be occurring or where improvement could occur.
  • 3. Oversee Safety-Health-Environment and total production maintenance strategy and implementation of the plant:
  • - Keeping an eye on plant and worker safety, monitoring the production equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working order, and repair or replace equipment as it becomes necessary.
  • - Implement and maintain preventative maintenance programs. Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary. Ensure compliance to all schedule for machines and facilities and assist in installation of all equipment.
  • - Manage capital asset maintenance. Ensure adherence to all timeframe and budget and assist to maintain all buildings and equipment’s.
  • - Ensure that emergency as well as health and safety equipment is tested and replenished on a regular basis. Comply with environment applicable regulations.
  • 4. Manage, develop manufacturing team and create a collaborative and favorable working condition for growth:
  • - Provide support to all manufacturing teams and manage efficient integration of work flow.
  • - Maintain optimal level of customer services for both internal and external customers.
  • - Together with HR, negotiate between various labor relations and conduct regular coaching, mentoring and performance management for subordinate managers and encourage best practices in people management among the team.
  • - Oversee people and staffing matters. Control and minimize labor overtime. Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
  • - Provides direction, development and leadership to production managers and the team under.
  • - Maintain a sustainable relationship with other departmental heads and managers. Meet regularly with department heads/business unit leaders; facilitate resolution of issues/problems between business units and/or departments
  • The job function listed is not exhaustive and shall also include any responsibilities as assigned by the Direct Manager from time to time

Professional competencies

  • - Bachelor's Degree with at least 15 years of related working experience or Master's degree or higher with 10 years of related working experience.
  • - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proper English skills, other foreign languages possibly Vietnamese advantage.
  • - Know-how of methods and concepts of Lean production, such as Kaizen, Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, Kanban etc.

Personal competencies

  • - Excellent process thinking as well as an innovative and solution-oriented way of thinking and acting
  • - Experience in group work and shift work for manual assembly and fully linked systems in larger production units.
  • - Experience in project management and injection molding is an advantage.
  • - Strong leadership and relationship management skills.
  • - Able to interact, cooperate, and motivate across departments and functions.
